We are once again delaying the start of chemo in order to allow Keith's platelet count to rise above 100,000. Keeping platelet production at an acceptable level is a challenge for many chemo patients and we are finding that Keith's platelet counts move up and down quite dramatically. Most Temodar users experience a low point around day 21 of the monthly cycle - based on our history, Keith seems to bottom out around day 27 or so.
We will wait out the weekend and test again on Monday. As soon as his count exceeds the threshold, he will start the next round.
This month has been a challenge. Keith has felt very tired and quite weak. He never seemed to have emerged from the damping effects of the last round of chemo and has had trouble with his appetite. We have been gradually reducing some of the anti-seizure medications in the hope of giving him a bit more energy and less of the "drugged" feeling. While he has had no seizures (we are going
very slowly), he has begun to experience some abnormal sensations in his right leg. Any change is frightening - we had him checked out and the conclusion is that the new feelings are either related to the change in meds (which at higher doses masked the sensation) or a result of something he did (too aggressively) at PT.
